2.5-inch Drive Array Features Small Size, High Density and Lower Power Consumption

Taipei, TAIWAN, June 3, 2008 – Today at COMPUTEX, networked storage expert Infortrend (Public TPE: 2495) won the Best Choice Award in the category of Data Storage Products for its EonStor® B12F-R1430 Fibre-Channel-to-SAS array. The ES B12F-R1430 is the world’s first external RAID subsystem using 2.5-inch hard drives, providing full RAID functionality and high performance density while saving energy. The Best Choice of COMPUTEX TAIPEI 2008 Award was open to all exhibitors who wanted to compete by entering their newly released products that exemplify innovation, marketability and technology. Over 400 products from more than 200 exhibitors took part in this year’s contest.

The EonStor B12F-R1430 offers redundant features, advanced RAID management tools and data protection functions comparable with 3.5-inch arrays, but consumes 20 to 30 percent less power and doubles throughput within the same shelf space. In a RAID5 end-to-end configuration, it can achieve up to 1450MBps (MB per second) reads and 850MBps writes, with IOPS greater than 160,000.

Scalability is another important feature that distinguishes the B12F-R1430 from the competition. It comes with two SAS expansion ports that can connect to Infortrend B12S-J1000 JBODs using 2.5-inch SAS drives, or with the company's S12S-J1000 or S16S-J1000 JBODs that house standard 3.5-inch drives. These 3.5-inch drive JBODs support SAS and SATA drives so users can build tiered storage applications: high performance SAS drives for mission-critical applications, and cost-effective SATA drives for near-line backup, distribution, or archives.
