Before You Start

Before you install host boards, make sure that the following steps have been completed.

• Refer to the Host Board and Memory Guide for more information, including supported host board types, supported combinations, and important notes. You can find it at Support > Technical Support > Scale-out NAS > Downloads.

To install host boards on a storage system that is already in operation:

• Shut down the applications and the system first before installing a host board.
• Export the NVRAM first before making any host board changes. When you remove, insert, or change a host board, the system will reset to the default system and NAS settings to prevent the previous settings from creating unexpected behaviors with the new hardware change.

Install a Host Board

1. Disconnect all cables from the controller module.
2. Loosen the screws that secure the controller module’s ejection levers to the chassis.

   

3. Push the ejection levers downwards to dislodge the controller from the system (A), and then pull to remove the controller from the enclosure (B).

   

4. Loosen the screw that secures the dummy cover to the controller and remove the dummy cover.

   

5. Use the guide pin to position the new host board to the host board slot, place it carefully (A), then tighten the thumb screw to secure the host board in place (B).

   

   Important!

   Always install the host board at the left slot first.

6. Insert back the controller carefully into the module slot (A). When you feel a contact resistance, use a small but careful force and push the ejection levers upwards to secure the controller into the chassis (B).

   

7. Secure the controller to the enclosure with the retention screws. Reconnect the cables to the controller module.
