Before You Start

Before you install drives, make sure that the following steps have been completed.

• Ensure to install the enclosure into a rack before installing drives into the enclosure.
• Refer to the Compatibility Guide (QVL) for supported drives. You can find it at Support > Technical Support > Scale-out NAS > Downloads.

Minimum Drive Number

Each model requires a different minimum number of drives. Refer to the article below for details.
How many drives must I install on my CS model?

Install a Drive into a Drive Tray

1. Push the release button to the left.

   

2. Move the lever tray to the left to unlock the sides

   

3. Pull both sides to widen the tray

   

4. Insert the drive into the tray.
   • For the 2.5-inch drive, secure the drive first to the inner tray using the two bundled screws (A), then orient its screw holes to the main drive tray’s pins on the sides (B).

     

   • For the 3.5-inch drive, orient the drive to the drive tray’s two pins on its sides.

     

5. Snap back the sides of the tray to its original position.
   • For the 2.5-inch drive, secure the hard drive and tray assembly with the bundled screws (A), then move the tray lever to the right. Keep the handle plate open (B).

     

   • For the 3.5-inch drive, secure the side to the drive with the release button first (A), then the side with the handle plate (B), and move the tray lever to the left (C). Keep the handle plate open.

     

Install a Drive and Tray Assembly into the Enclosure

1. Remove the front cover of the enclosure (A). Loosen the screws that secure the top cover (B). Gently slide the top cover forward then lift it up (C).

   

2. Extend the middle slide rails (A), align them to the installed inner bars, and then insert the enclosure to the rack (B).

   

3. With the handle plate open, insert the drive and tray assembly into a drive bay.

   

4. After the other drives have been inserted, put the top cover back, tighten the two screws to secure the top cover, and put the front cover back. Gently slide the entire enclosure into the rack. Secure the enclosure to the front rack posts with two M5 20mm screws.

   

   Note:

   If the rack posts have unthreaded mounting holes, insert two M5 cage nuts to the these holes, and then use two M5 screws to secure the enclosure to the rack.
