Important Note for Scale-out Users

If you have enabled scale-out when running the Initial Setup Wizard, you can proceed to Scale-out Settings > Create Users and Create and Access Folders from a Client.

Create Pools

In the initialization setup wizard step we created the first and the second storage pool. You can also create additional disk pools from management webpage for different uses.

• If you only need to create two disk pools and they have been successfully created, you can skip this step.
• If you want to create an additional disk pool, follow the instructions below on how to create a disk pool.

1. Go to Settings > Storage > Pools. Click Add pool to create a new disk pool.

   

2. Create a pool.
   • Specify your pool name (this field is required).
   • Select the write policy in cache memory from the scroll down list. There are two options: Write-Back (default) and Write-Through. With Write-Back, writing is only done to the cache while the backing storage is postponed until cache blocks containing the data are about to be modified or replaced with new content. With Write-Through, data write is done synchronously both to the cache and to the backing storage.
   • Read the description in gray carefully and select Asymmetric Active/Active or Symmetric Active/Active mode under Select controller ownership policy for the pool.

   

3. Scroll down and click the Add logical drive button. You will be directed to the page for configuring logical drive parameters.

   

4. Configure logical drive parameters.
   • Select drive members from enclosures and JBOD that are available to be created as Logical Drives.
   • Specify the logical drive name.
   • Select a RAID protection level.
   • Select a stripe size for the logical drive. The default may be 128K.
   • Click Apply.

   

5. Once you have completed Logical Drive settings, your newly created Logical Drive will appear under the Add logical drive button. Click OK to complete pool setup.

   

Create Volumes

In the initialization setup wizard step we created volumes; you can also create additional volumes from management webpage for different uses.

• If you only need to create the current amount of volumes and it has been successfully created, you can skip this step.
• If you want to create and additional volume, follow the instructions below on how to create a volume.

1. Go to Settings > Storage > Volumes. Click Add volume to create a new volume.

   

2. Create a volume.
   • Select a pool for the volume to claim capacity.
   • Select the volume type File-level volume for NAS.
   • Specify a volume name (required).
   • Choose a file system.
   • Specify the size of the volume (required).
   • Click OK to apply the settings.

   

Create Shared Folders in EonOne

This section described how to create shared folders in EonOne for file sharing purposes via different protocols (CIFS/SMB, NFS, FTP, AFP, and Rsync).

Important Note for Scale-out Users

If you have enabled the scale-out feature when running the Initial Setup Wizard, you can proceed to Scale-out Settings > Create Users and Create Folders from a Client.

1. Go to Settings > Privilege > Shared folders
2. Click the Add button.

   

3. The folder configuration page will pop up. Specify the basic shared folder settings:

   

   Name	Description
   Folder Name	Specify a name for the shared folder. This name is displayed in the shared folder list.
   Share name	Specify a name for the network sharing. Users only need to specify share name when CIFS, AFP or WebDAV is selected as an access protocol.
   Location	Choose the volume that stores the folder’s directory. File system on the volume must be enabled when created.
   Protocol	Set the shared folder’s accessing protocols: CIFS/SMB, NFS, and FTP.

Create Users and User Groups

This section described how to create users and user groups in EonOne.

Important Note for Scale-out Users

If you have enabled the scale-out feature when running the Initial Setup Wizard, you can proceed to Scale-out Settings > Create Users and Create Folders from a Client.

Create Local User

1. Go to Settings > Privilege > Users.
2. Select Local users from the leftmost dropdown list.
3. Click Add to create a new user.

   

4. Go to the General tab and provide user information. Refer to the descriptions below.

   

   Name	Description
   Username	Specify the new username. No spaces are allowed.
   Password	Enter the password for this user account.
   Home directory	Create a home directory (volume) for this user. When you check the box, the home directory path will automatically appear.
   Password expiration	Specify the validity period of the user password. The user has to change the password when it expires.

5. Click OK when finished.

Import domain users from an AD/LDAP server

GS can join a Windows Active Directory (AD) domain and a Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) domain. After joining a domain, GS retrieves information of domain users for management.

Note:

To add/delete/edit domain users or user groups, go to the domain server to do proper management.

1. Go to Settings > Privilege > AD/LDAP.
2. Select the ty pe of domain to join the GS to: Windows active directory or Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP).

   

3. Specify the information by domain type:

   Windows AD domain

   Item	Description
   AD server	Specify the IP address or domain of the Windows AD server.
   AD security	Select whether to protect the connection with the Windows AD server: None or TLS.
   Username	Specify the administrative username of the Windows AD server.
   Password	Specify the administrative password of the Windows AD server.
   Authentication level	Set the authentication strength from 2 (lowest security) to 5 (highest security). To know which authentication level to choose, consult the documentation of Windows AD server.
   Domain controller	Click Fetch to get the domain controller information.
   DC address	This field displays the IP addresses of the fetched domain controllers.

   

   LDAP domain

   Item	Description
   LDAP server	Specify the IP address of the LDAP server.
   LDAP Security	Select whether to protect the connection with the LDAP server: None or TLS.
   Base DN	Specify the LDAP base DN (distinguished name). Examples: dc=aadomain,dc=aa.local
   Root DN	Specify the LDAP root DN. Examples: cn=admin,dc=aadomain,dc=aa.local
   Password	Specify the root username and password of the LDAP server.

   

4. Click Save to save the information.
5. The system automatically retrieves the domain-specific user information (in Settings > Privilege > Users) and user group information (in Settings > Privilege > Groups).
6. To update information about domain users, click Update user list.

Create User Groups

After creating local users and exporting domain users from AD/LDAP, you can also create user groups to manage multiple users.

1. Go to Settings > Privilege > User groups.
2. Click Add to create a new group

   

3. Specify the group name (required).
4. Select users as group members.

   

Set up Folder Access Permissions

This section describes how to set up folder access permissions in EonOne.

Important Note for Scale-out Users

If you have enabled the scale-out feature when running the Initial Setup Wizard, you can proceed to Scale-out Settings > Create Users and Create Folders from a Client.

1. Go to Settings > Privilege > Shared Folders.
2. Select a folder and click Edit.

   

3. Switch the tab to Permission.

   

4. From the dropdown menu, you can switch between Local users, Domain users, Local groups, and Domain groups.

   

5. Edit access permissions. Click OK when finished.

Access Shared Folders from a Client (without Scale-out)

This section describes how to access shared folders from a client.

Important Note for Scale-out Users

If you have enabled the scale-out feature when running the Initial Setup Wizard, you can proceed to Scale-out Settings > Create Users and Create Folders from a Client.

Access shared folders directly from a file explorer

1. Before you start, make sure the server and GS are in the same subnet.
2. Make sure the shared folder is listed in Settings > Shared folders in EonOne.

   

3. Check the protocol setting which you require to use for this shared folder. You can check the folder type shown on the folder (For example the folder 123 in above picture's protocol is CIFS/SMB).
4. Check the user permission is read/write permission, you can follow the chapter: Setup the folder permission, to check/set up the user permission Switch to the Permission tab and
5. Go to Settings > Access > Channel & network to make sure the connection information file level channels.

   

6. Open a file browser. Enter the IP address into the address bar and the shared folder(s) will appear.

   

Access shared folders using EonView

1. On Infortrend’s website, go to Support > Technical Support > Unified Storage > Downloads > Software. Select your model and find EonView from the table.

   

2. Find your operating system and download the corresponding file.
3. Launch EonView. It will automatically connect to the GS storage device(s) in the same local network.

   

   Alternatively, enter the specific IP to access the GS.

   

4. Click Next. Enter the account and password to access the GS system.
5. Switch to the Shared folders tab.

   

6. Click Add a shared folder and select the folder you want to mount on the local side.

   

7. Now, you can access this shared folder from your local computer.
