This section describes the procedures of adding an appliance to a cluster.

If you plan to use the scale-out service on only one appliance (i.e. the primary appliance) for now, you can proceed to Migrate and Manage Folders.

Before You Start

Before adding an appliance to a cluster, please make sure to read the information below and follow the instructions.

1. The appliance must be a new one. If it has been used or initialized, you will have to restore it to default settings first.
2. Important: Do NOT run the Initial Setup Wizard on the appliance. Use EonOne to add the appliance to the cluster (see Add an Appliance to a Cluster below).
   • If you have started the Initial Setup Wizard, do NOT click Exit. Simply perform all relevant settings there.
   • If you click Exit at any step or complete the initialization with the Wizard, the appliance will NOT be regarded as a new one and will NOT be able to join the cluster.
3. All the appliances in the same cluster must be running a firmware version that supports the GS scale-out service. The firmware versions do not have to be the same across the appliances in the cluster*.

Add an Appliance to a Cluster

1. Log in to EonOne using the primary appliance’s management IP.
2. Select the cluster from the device list on the top menu bar. Go to Settings > Appliance > Member appliances, and click Add an appliance.

   

3. Choose one GS appliance from the appliance table to join the cluster. Click Next.

   

   Note:

   The table shows all the available GS appliances that are connected to the same network switch as the primary appliance does via the management ports.

4. Configure the appliance settings, including the device name, management interface IP, and file server name. Click Next.

   Note:

   Use a device name that is more recognizable to you, especially when you add multiple appliances of the same model.

   

5. Preview the channel settings.

   

6. Create a pool on each controller.
7. Create a volume.
8. View the Summary of your settings and click Start initialization. The GS appliance will be added to the cluster when the initialization is finished.
9. If you are going to use the auto-balancing feature or migrate folders from the primary appliance to another appliance, you need to activate the license. Refer to Activate a File Scale-out License for details.
