Storage Initialization

EonStor GSe Pro / GSe Pro 3000 / GSe Pro 3012

The Initial Setup Wizard in EonOne assists you to quickly complete all the required settings. We strongly recommend that you follow the Wizard to initialize your GS storage.

Important Notes for Scale-out Users
  • Make sure you have understood the scale-out architecture and its requirements. Refer to Scale-out Overview for details.
  • If you are going to add an additional appliance to an existing scale-out cluster, do NOT run the Initial Setup Wizard on this new appliance. If you have already started the Wizard, do NOT click Exit. Simply go to EonOne for GS scale-out and perform all relevant settings there. Refer to Add an Appliance for details.

1. Log in to EonOne

  1. Open a web browser and enter the GS’s management port IP into the address bar. If the IP address is not available, use the default address <10.10.1.1>.
  2. The login page of EonOne will appear. The default username and password are both admin. Enter the login credentials and click Login.

  3. Start the Initial Setup Wizard. Click Next to start system configurations.

2. Firmware Update

You can update the firmware if the firmware version on this unit is not the latest.

  1. Click Browse and select the firmware installation file.
  2. Click Update. The process may take several minutes to finish.
  3. Once it is done, click Next.

3. Event Notice

Under Event notice, you can edit Notification settings and Service Manager settings. With notifications enabled, you will receive notifications of important events (e.g. system errors or warnings) via email or SNMP server. Service Manager identifies critical events requiring Infortrend’s assistance and sends requests to the Technical Support Department accordingly.

To edit notification settings:

  1. Click Notification settings.
  2. Go to the Email page.
  3. Enable Email notification by clicking the switch button.
  4. Fill in the information for SMTP Server and Sender email.

  5. Add Email receivers by clicking the Add receiver button at the bottom of the page.
  6. You must also name your Mail subject to identify your notification email.

  7. Go to the SNMP page.
  8. Enable SNMP trap by clicking the switch button.
  9. Click the Enable SNMPv1 support check box to activate the SNMPv1.
  10. Enter the Community information ( the password of the SNMP).

  11. Click Add SNMPv1 trap receiver to add a trap server.
  12. Enter the Receiver IP address and select the Severity level to complete the settings. Click OK.

  13. Click the Enable SNMPv3 support check box to activate the SNMPv3.
  14. Enter the Username (the username for authentication) of the SNMPv3 server.

  15. Click Add SNMPv3 trap receiver to add a trap server.
  16. Enter the Receiver IP address and select the Severity level to complete the settings. Click OK.

To edit Service Manager settings:
  1. Click Service Manager settings.
  2. Enable Service Manager with the toggle.
  3. Fill in your contact information (Email, country, etc.).

  4. Check I agree to automatically notify Infortrend when critical events occur. The system will automatically create a support ticket to Infortrend Service Center when any critical errors occur.
  5. Check I agree the requests from Infortrend support engineers to transmit system information for troubleshooting. Upon request, the system will send out relevant information (i.e. logs, system configurations, and core dumps) for diagnosis to Infortrend and a notification to you.
  6. When you are done with the settings, click Close. Then click Next to proceed.

4. System Settings (Including Scale-out)

  1. On the System settings page, specify the device name and change the login password for admin.

  2. Specify the file server name (per controller) and the time settings.

  3. Add a DNS server, if needed. Then select a performance optimization option.

For Scale-out Users

  1. Enable the Scale-out option (“On”) at the bottom of System settings.
  2. Specify the following information.
    • Cluster name: Specify the name of the cluster.
    • Type: Select the data type to be used.

5. Storage (Including Scale-out)

  1. In the Storage section, select Allocate storage space and select a pool mode.

  2. Specify pool names and configure pool settings.

  3. Click Add a volume to create a volume. Depending on your needs, you can create multiple volumes on one pool.

For Scale-out Users

  1. Enter the name of the root shared folder. In the future, you will use a client computer to manage and access data via the root shared folder.

  2. Select a volume as the cluster root volume, which has to be a volume on the primary controller (controller A by default). This setting cannot be changed once storage initialization is completed.
Important!
  • For a dual-controller model, if you plan to use both controllers in your cluster later, make sure to create at least a pool and a volume on each controller.
  • Make sure to allocate sufficient capacity on the cluster root volume. By default, folders created under the root shared folder will be located on the cluster root volume first.

6. Channel (Including Scale-out)

Under Channel, configure the data port channels in the storage system in order to access the volumes. By default, the system automatically sets all onboard data ports for file-level access. You can change the channel type to block-level service manually.

7. Network Service

On the Network service page, the system will list the enabled protocols

  1. Click Change if you wish to change the protocols that will be used.
  2. Click Next to proceed.

8. AD/LDAP

  1. Select whether you need to join the device to an AD server or an LDAP server.
  2. Click Next to proceed.

9. Summary and Initialization (Including Scale-out)

Under Summary, all the settings are displayed for you to verify.

  1. Click Start initialization, and the system will start to execute the initialization process in the background.
  2. Wait for the system to apply your configurations. Once it is done, click Close.

For Scale-out Users
