Using a Thin Client system on Infortrend’s EonStor DS G7 solution in cooperation with Hiscom Co., Ltd

Suzuyo System Technology Co., Ltd (hereinafter, are Suzuyo System Technology or SST) is the information systems subsidiary of the Suzuyo Group, which has developed businesses around the world since 1801 and possesses 140 affiliated companies both domestically and internationally. SST specializes in developing information systems and in operating & maintaining outsourced projects. SST’s main focus is always on high levels of service and customer satisfaction.

The challenge: To create a BCP strategy that covers individual PC systems and increases the efficiency of PC management for the whole company

As Suzuyo System Technology is located in Shizuoka Prefecture, the possibility of a large earthquake occurring in the near feature is one of highest priorities when considering BCP. SST has installed a Disaster Recovery system for its servers in Tokyo as a BCP measure already. However planning BCP for individual PC systems was still unaccounted for. As in the event of a pandemic or in case of unexpected disaster that makes a specific workplace inaccessible and staff members unable to access their office PCs. Another requirement is to enable efficient PC management as many staff and PCs join the team when growing our system development business. SST has to manage 300 or more employee’s PC systems and also cooperation staff’s PCs together. The system resources required PC management is high and should be solved in an efficient manner at SST.

The solution for the challenge: Implement Thin Client solution with Hiscom who have experiences of system development in the marketplace

When Suzuyo System Technology realized the BCP requirements for PCs, the virtualization of the desktop became a big challenge. Maintaining a high enough level of security on the system, improving the user-friendliness, and a lot of PC management job are another side of the distress at SST.

Hiscom proposed to SST a joint development of a Thin Client system in which the operations management of the virtualization environment is easy and provides good access speeds from mobile even when the network traffic bandwidth is not wide enough.

SST utilized the EonStor DS S16F-R2850 of Infortrend’s G7 series that has excellent IOPS and throughput which exceeded the middle class RAID storage as a storage infrastructure. The ESDS S16F-R2850 G7 series works at Mission Critical business application and uses VMware in which building virtualization environments can reduce electric power cost and a space cost as well as provide a rich install base.

Hiscom installed Thin Client system with VMware in their company and they are well known as a good partner to build and operate the Thin Client system with customers.

It responds to further requests to increase the storage performance in the high-availability SAN environment.

To improve the availability of the data, Infortrend ESDS S16F-R2850 is designed for high-availability environment operations with redundant RAID controllers, dual power supplies, and dual cooling fans – all with redundancy. It has 700K IOPS high performance and features flexible scaling options for up to 240 HDDs for expanding storage space if needed.

It is possible to save development and operation time with easy administrative functions

SST made a cooperation project team with Hiscom for building Thin Client system. The team implemented smart cards for security authentication, and Hiscom took care of VDI and VPN for the team. As a result of the Thin Client system, the result is excellent as the BCP measure of the PC is over 90% complete and PC management task time reduction is about over 80% complete.

The BCP measure for the PC also became applicable to mobile and telecommuting workloads as it can be used via network as long as the virtual desktop is available. In the future, it will be extended to other companies in the group.
