How long does it take for a controller failover to complete?

Last modified date: Fri, 22 Nov 2024 14:23:56 GMT+8

Explanation:

For GS series models, a controller failover typically takes about 30 – 40 seconds when the service I/O is not at its peak. If the service I/O is busy, the failover time can extend to around 60 seconds, as the failover process requires coordination with the agent and mapping operations. This may cause a brief downtime on the host, lasting seconds or even minutes depending on the work environment.

Note:

  • For dual-controller subsystems, ensure Ethernet cables are connected to both controllers. The Management Ethernet port on the secondary controller remains "IDLE" and becomes active if the primary controller fails. During the failover process, the secondary controller inherits the primary controller's IP.
  • In systems with redundant controllers, a MUX Board kit is required for both controllers to access the drives if using SATA drives. Without this kit, the failover process may not function correctly, as some signals may not transfer properly from Controller A to Controller B.
