Infortrend’s EonStor DS Supports Business Growth of 500wan.com, Major Lottery Transaction Portal in China

500wan.com is China's largest online lottery sales platform, with annual sales revenue of about 3 billion RMB (US$474 million; US$1=6.33 RMB). As a transaction platform, it requires high-performance, high-speed data Read and Write operations. Perhaps most importantly, the platform must feature secure data storage and ensure stable and secure operations during abnormal events such as RAID controller failures and Fibre Channel (FC) connection failures.

Customer Requirements: High Data Availability and Excellent Read/Write Performance

500wan.com had a clear objective: connecting an FC-host storage array to four Linux Oracle RAC servers, with the four servers simultaneously conducting Read/Write operations on the storage array. The company required that these Read/Write operations were conducted at high speed and that the storage array would be able to continue operating normally even in the event of multiple FC connection failures, thereby ensuring zero data loss during Write operations. Another requirement of the company was that the RAID controllers of the storage array were able to conduct immediate failover without any delays.

Customers enter the 500wan.com portal through web servers, with the Oracle RAC systems serving as the back-end transaction platform, processing critical information such as customer accounts, account balance, purchases etc. As large amounts of money are involved in these transactions, high system stability and performance are essential.

The Solution: EonStor DS 8Gb/s FC-host Array

Infortrend is a leading provider of data storage solutions, with almost 20 years experience in developing and manufacturing storage arrays. Based on this experience and 500wan.com’s requirements, Infortrend recommended its EonStor DS S12F-R1840 array.

The EonStor DS S12F-R1840 features eight 8Gb/s FC host ports and supports DAS and SAN configurations. The four Oracle RAC servers are directly connected to the EonStor DS array in a DAS configuration. Two 8Gb/s FC HBAs were installed on the servers, connecting each server to the storage array's two controllers.

The Infortrend array successfully went through a 2-month trial period, with the array meeting all of 500wan.com’s demands including zero data loss during multiple FC connection failures and immediate controller failover. The array was officially adopted by the 500wan.com and is now online serving the website portal’s customers.
