Media Production Company Egg Is Coming Adopts Infortrend’s SAN Storage for Video Editing Application

Based in South Korea, Egg is coming is a media content production company that currently operates as a spin-off from the leading entertainment group CJ ENM. The company was originally founded by writer Lee Woo-jung, and now its CEO is the renowned producer Lee Myung-han. Egg is coming specializes in production of popular entertainment content, including drama series, broadcast programs, music videos, etc. The editors utilize Final Cut Pro X and Adobe Premiere Pro video editing software to bring their creative visions to life. The team has successfully produced numerous renowned series. Among them was the popular "Hospital Playlist", which became the ninth highest-rated Korean drama series in cable television history at the time.

As the company was established, they began searching for a high-speed shared storage solution. Infortrend’s SAN storage came highly recommended by a major media production company that had successfully utilized it with Tiger Technology’s SAN file system sharing solution. Trusting this recommendation, Egg is coming adopted the same solution for video editing application.

Challenges

• PB-level capacity was required to store ever-expanding video content produced in ultra-high definition.
• Storage solution must provide high performance to enable simultaneous video editing processes from 29 editors.

Solution: EonStor DS 4000 and JB 3060L

For the initial deployment of their data system, Egg is coming connected EonStor DS 4016 SAN storage to 2 units of Tiger Serve Metadata Controller (MDC). DS 4016 supports up to 448 drives via expansion enclosure, providing PB-level capacity to store created video content. In total, four DS 4016 appliances, expanded with four units of JB 3060L, were deployed. The solution was loaded with 304 x 8TB 7.2K RPM SAS HDD, offering 1.8 PB of total capacity. Establishing a high-capacity, high-speed SAN shared storage system with DS solution enabled seamless and efficient collaboration between 29 post-production editors. Requirements for high storage performance and high capacity were addressed through an ‘active-active’ dual controller design and the use of JBODs, respectively.
