Why Does a BAD Drive Exist but the Front LED Light is Still Green?

Last modified date: Thu, 24 Oct 2024 15:58:01 GMT+8

Symptom

A drive error is present on the storage system, but the front panel warning LED light is still green.

Diagnosis

The front LED remains green because the Logical Drive (LD) automatically rebuilds after the drive fails. During the rebuilding process, and once it completes successfully, the front LED stays green.

Here is an example of the event log:

Explanation

This behavior is by design. During the LD rebuilding process or after it completes successfully, the LED will remain green. If the rebuilding process fails, the light will turn amber (red).
