The group currently employs over 150 staff and offers its residents not only single room apartments, but also restaurants, medical facilities and entertainment offerings all within the facilities.

Sonnenhof Gruppe’s Challenges and Storage Needs

Their datacenter is located in Frankfurt am Main, and all locations/offices are connected to the datacenter via VPN. After extensively updating their existing data center software, Sonnenhof Gruppe needed a new storage system that could better handle its database, email and other IOPS intensive applications. It was also important that the storage system could be integrated easily into their existing infrastructure and virtualized Microsoft Hyper-V data center.

Sonnenhof Gruppe said it opted for Infortrend “EonStor DS 4024B” because this all-flash small form factor (SFF) storage offers end-to-end 600K IOPS, which is better than other storage systems they had tested, and exceeded expectations. Its converged host board with 8Gb/s or 16Gb/s Fibre Channel, 10Gb/s iSCSI and 10Gb/s FCoE interfaces gave them an easy option for future upgrades too. Although this was Sonnenhof Gruppe’s first experience with Infortrend storage systems, thanks to EonStor DS 4024B’s great compatibility with Microsoft Hyper-V Cluster Systems and its intuitive setup interface, it only took about 2 days for Sonnenhof Gruppe to complete deployment and configurations, including 3 Workmann G7220 Server and a RAID 6 volume, and to carry out testing in Microsoft Hyper-V virtualized environments without any help from Infortrend.
