Features

Scale-out

Best Storage Expansion Solution for Enterprises! EonStor GS supports scale-out expansion, allowing you to easily expand performance and capacity on demand.

With a scale-out architecture, GS can linearly scale performance and capacity for both block-level and file-level environments. When a GS unit reaches its performance or capacity limits, simply add more GS appliances to form a cluster of up to four GS units. GS also supports scale-up expansion with expansion enclosures, allowing you to add up to 896 drives to increase storage capacity.

Powerful but Easy-to-Use

Single namespace for easy data access: The GS scale-out feature integrates multiple GS units into a single file system. All folders and files can be accessed through a single root directory, making data easy to find and use. For example, files stored across different GS units and paths (e.g., \\server01, \\server02, \\server03) can be accessed through a single path (e.g., \\server01). Users can access their data without needing to know which GS unit stores it.

Auto-balancing to reduce the burden of IT storage management: The auto-balancing function assists with data migration. Based on IT-defined folder attributes and migration policies, it automatically identifies and recommends where data should be stored—for example, ensuring certain data is stored on SSDs. This reduces the need for IT staff to manually plan and perform data migration.

High Storage Efficiency

EonStor GS features inline compression and offline deduplication to reduce the storage capacity required and lower storage costs. You can schedule deduplication or stop the process when needed to avoid performance impact during peak hours and maintain management flexibility.

You can also configure the GS as a hybrid storage architecture based on your application requirements. With automatic storage tiering and SSD caching, the GS combines high performance and large capacity while helping reduce storage costs:

  • Automatic storage tiering (Auto-tiering) allows you to use U.2 NVMe SSDs in the GS and NL-SAS/SATA HDDs in expansion enclosures, combining the high performance of SSDs with the large capacity of HDDs.
  • SSD cache uses a small number of SSDs in the GS to accelerate read performance in SAN storage environments. In NAS storage environments, it also accelerates read/write performance and file operations for a better user experience.

New Level of High Availability

EonStor GS offers block-level active-active HA service to deliver continuous services. It is ideal for business-critical applications with an extremely low tolerance for downtime. Organizations can leverage HA service features to easily handle planned or unplanned events such as outages, system maintenance, and human error.

  • Auto-failover and failback ensure non-disruptive operations, achieving a near-zero RTO (recovery time objective): Monitored by a witness server, the HA service automatically switches service between two storage devices when one fails. It also automatically restores service to the recovered device when it resumes operation. This ensures continuous service availability with no noticeable interruption to users.
  • Synchronous remote replication ensures no data loss, achieving a zero RPO (recovery point objective): The HA service continuously replicates complete and identical copies of data between two storage devices. Both devices are always ready to provide service, helping eliminate data loss if one device encounters an issue.
  • Fully utilize storage resources with active-active architecture: By assigning both storage devices to deliver service simultaneously, you can optimize your storage resources more effectively than with active-passive clusters.

Smart Management for SSD

EonStor GS U.2 NVMe hybrid flash storage and EonStor GS SAS SSD hybrid flash storage use an intelligent algorithm designed specifically for SSDs. The algorithm reduces the total number of writes to extend SSD lifespan and helps prevent multiple SSDs from failing at the same time, reducing the risk of data loss. EonStor GS also estimates the remaining lifespan of each SSD and alerts administrators when an SSD is nearing the end of its lifespan. This allows administrators to replace the SSD before it fails and helps ensure continuous data availability.

Complete Data Protection and Backup

EonStor GS provides robust data protection features to help keep your data safe:

  • RAID technology ensures that data remains intact in the event of drive failures.
  • WORM and immutable object storage effectively protect data from ransomware encryption.
  • Local replication provides flexible backup options through volume copy and snapshots at both file and block levels. It also enables fast and efficient data rollbacks when required.
  • Remote replication enables backup data from a GS appliance to a remote GS appliance or to a public cloud.

EonStor GS can also function as a backup appliance with its backup server feature, allowing you to easily back up files from PCs, file servers, and public clouds. This reduces the need for third-party backup software, which often charges based on data volume or the number of backup sources.
