Infortrend’s 4U 60-bay Storage and JBOD optimize the IT room’s footprint in the Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw

“As an institution, we are required to archive large amounts of data related to cultural heritage. After analysing the Storage market, our choice fell on the Infortrend solution because of the functionalities, capacity expandability offered at affordable price, and 4U 60-bay form-factor for our limited rack space,” said Tomasz Kuźma, IT Department.

The Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw encountered the problem of insufficient storage capacity for data appearing from the implemented projects of digitizing Museum collections. Since most of this data are multimedia materials, their aim was to find a storage that would provide large storage capacity for all these files as well as allow to easily expand infrastructure by several TB of free space for new materials. Thanks to previously selected Infortrend solution, the capacity expansion task was very easy to fulfil, and now the Museum’s infrastructure is able to provide the necessary storage space for archiving multimedia materials and backing up its production infrared systems.

Challenges

The institution was in search of a storage solution able to resolve the issues of limited space in the datacenters and provide large capacity with future expandability, as:

  • The existing storage didn’t provide enough capacity to store and archive large amounts of data, and the data was constantly growing
  • Limited rack space required storage to optimize server room’s footprint by providing high-density storage solution

Solution

The Museum purchased Infortrend storage EonStor DS 3060RT2 before, and for its new project of digitizing its collections, the Museum chose JB 3000 4U 60-bay with 4TB HDDs. Using little space in the 4U rack cabinet, the Museum IT-managers can place 60 drives into one subsystem. Moreover, the storage provides easy management via SANWatch centralized platform. Disk space has been allocated for backup of the Museum’s main IT systems as well as for storing and archiving multimedia files.

Why Infortrend

  • Suitable for the rack cabinet 4U 60-bay form-factor
  • Easy-to-use centralized management via SANWatch software
  • Capacity expandability for new TB-level materials
  • Great value at reasonable price
  • Good customer service and technical support
  • Positive previous experience with Infortrend products
