Symptom:
User might encounter secondary controller cannot boot up while primary is normal.
Error event:
2024-07-02 07:06:40 0x20011006 The secondary controller is not allowed to boot up because it contains backed-up data that is not found in the primary controller. (slot A)
Diagnosis:
After a single controller runs for some time, the cache data will have changed. This creates a different cache between the primary and secondary controllers, preventing the secondary controller from booting up.
Solution:
Follow these steps to resolve the issue:
- Save the configuration file (NVRAM).
- Turn off the storage system.
- Remove Controller B (bottom slot).
- Hold down the Default button on the back of Controller A (you will need a paper clip or a similar object, as the button is recessed) and turn on the power to the storage.
- Do not release the button until the green LED underneath it turns on (wait about a minute; the green LED will light up and then turn off).
- Wait until Controller A boots up and the web interface becomes available (the management port is reset to default 10.10.1.1 or assigned by DHCP). You can find the new IP address in the Central EonOne software through Auto Discovery or when connected to the serial port. Alternatively, check the last issued IP address on your DHCP server or the MAC address (in the absence of Controller A, Controller B operates with the same MAC address as Controller A).
- After that, turn off the power supply to the system, remove Controller A from the storage system, and install Controller B (bottom slot). This ensures that the configuration of Controller B, which is currently active, becomes the main one.
- Turn on the power, and after Controller B boots up, you can reinstall Controller A.
