Controller Status Stuck at 'Controller Almost Ready' in WebGUI

Last modified date: Thu, 05 Mar 2026 17:49:04 GMT+8

Symptom

The WebGUI displays the message "Controller Almost Ready" and the status remains stuck.

Diagnosis

The two controllers are not communicating properly, causing the system to get stuck while trying to start up. This usually happens when the configuration stored in NVRAM is not synchronized between the controllers.

Solution

  1. Identify Primary and Secondary Controllers
Before proceeding, determine which controller is the primary and which is the secondary:
    • Access the WebGUI and check the controller status.
    • The primary controller is the one that was powered on first. If both controllers are powered on simultaneously, the system will automatically assign the primary role.
    • If the WebGUI is not accessible, check the controller LEDs or consult the system documentation for LED behavior that indicates the primary controller.
  2. Perform a Default Restore on the Secondary Controller
Important: Before proceeding with the Default Restore, you must remove the active (primary) controller from the enclosure. Failure to do so will result in the loss of all configurations unless an NVRAM backup is available.
    • Locate the Default button on the back of the secondary controller.
    • Use a paper clip or a pencil (as the button is recessed) and press and hold the Default button.
    • While holding the button, turn on the power to the storage system.
    • Continue holding the button until the green LED underneath turns on. This process takes approximately one minute (the green LED will light up and then turn off).
    • Wait for the secondary controller to boot up and for the WebGUI to become available.
