How to Deal with Performance Significantly Drawdown?

Symptom

Users are experiencing a catastrophic performance drawdown in their system.

Diagnosis

Multiple factors could be causing this behavior, such as issues with HDD, network environment, etc. Therefore, the IFT Support Team needs to narrow down the issue by collecting the DHIO data and the diagnostic log first.

Before proceeding with the diagnostic procedures, it is important for the customer to first rule out any potential environmental issues. This includes checking the network setup, ensuring that all hardware components are functioning correctly, and verifying that no external factors are contributing to the performance drawdown.

Procedure
  • Collecting the DHIO Data
    To collect the DHIO data, follow these steps:
    1. Log in to the IP address of the system's port management via FTP.
    2. Use the following credentials:
      - User: dumpdata
      - Password: (leave blank)
    3. After a successful connection, enter the following commands:
      get dumpdata.GetCacheDetail.a.3
      get dumpdata.GetCacheDetail.b.3
  • Collecting the Core Dump via FTP
    To collect the core dump, follow these steps:
    1. Disable the firewall and antivirus software on your local machine.
    2. Connect to the IP address of the management port of the system via FTP protocol (not SFTP).
      - User: coredump
      - Password: coredump
    3. Switch to binary mode by entering the command binary.
    4. Enter the command mkdir coredumpdata but do not press Enter yet.
    5. Start the write operation. Shortly after the problem has occurred (when the speed drops), press Enter.
    6. Enter the command mget * and confirm with y to save the dump files on your local computer.
    7. The file names will be in the format coredumpdata.A.xxxxxx and coredumpdata.B.xxxxxx. Upload these files to the support ticket.
Solution

The issue could be a known problem that has been resolved in the latest firmware. Check the Release Notes for more detailed information. Updating the firmware is another way to narrow down the issue. You can download the latest firmware from the following link: Infortrend Service.

If the problem persists, follow the next instructions from the TSD Support Engineer.

By following these steps and ensuring that environmental factors are ruled out, the IFT Support Team can effectively diagnose and address the performance drawdown, ensuring optimal system performance.
